We are currently evaluating players for our 9U, 10U & 11U teams. Player age is USSSA standard - 9, 10, or 11 on or before 4/30/2021. Open tryouts are happening twice a week by appointment only in the San Ramon and Danville areas. Please contact david@allblacksbaseball.com for more info.
The best way to learn is to train more and play less. But, when we do compete, we give max effort to win. Our culture code is to create well-rounded baseball players and athletes, not locking a 10 year old into one position. They need to learn and experience the field until they reach 13-14 when certain position strengths will present themselves. Kids are not paid pro players - time to stop treating them that way! To become an expert at one position, you must understand how the others are played by learning and playing them. Our advice? Find a program that values a well-rounded baseball player and multi-sport athlete and spends more time training and teaching than loading in 4-6 games every weekend. These are the kids that HS and College coaches are after, not a kid who spent his entire youth playing in 1-2 spots and is on verge of burnout. Contact us for more information on how to develop youth players.
Our team follows guidelines provided by State, County and City to ensure player and family health are a priority. Any questions or concerns about our process of control, please inquire. david@allblacksbaseball.com
This is an important topic. Roughly 60% of all UCL surgeries are being performed on teens 14-18 years old. Why? Overuse. Coaches and parents are demanding more from kids, forcing early specialization as young as 8 years old, and pushing baseball year round. UCL surgery is no joke and not always 100% effective. Congratulations to Black Diamonds own 9/10U player Dylan DC Crawford on his appearance in #SandLotToTheShow on @mlbnetwork. Sharing his hard work with the world generated a lot of love and great commentary from Al Leiter and DeRo. His leg kick was compared to the original "El Presidente" Luis Tiant. What an honor for DC, the newest El Presidente of this next generation.
While we are slowly transitioning back out to team practice sessions in small groups, check out these drills from SF Giants Bench Coach Kai Correa. Working on foot and body position, balance, feel, arm and adapting to various arm slots can pay off in preparing for game play. We use some of these drills in early pre-game warm-up and encourage use of pancake glove and transition to short glove and gamer by the time we take infield warm-ups. #SFGiants
Youth travel sports is a money-grabbing $9B industry with so much emphasis on specialization and win-at-all-cost. Including the health of these young kids. We are a flexible travel program with a very different culture and approach. Player health is #1. We focus on flexible options for multi-sport and development over maximizing tournaments. Contact admin@allblacksbaseball.com for more info on how we are different. Video compliments of HBO #RealSports
Teaching youth players the game of baseball is rewarding when you see them teach it back. One key aspect to coaching is helping players understand the "why" within the drills they are taught. Ultimately, we want young players to become smarter players who have a feel for the game and know how to self-correct. DC sets a great example and walks viewers through a few drills to promote power and clean contact. His baseball IQ is fantastic as he explains each step.#developmentfirst #blackdiamondsbase
Hitting is one of the most rewarding aspects in baseball if you ask most people. Unless you hit the ball near Javier Baez. Greatness isn't free - it takes hard work to become more athletic and refine your craft every day. Check out this video of one of the defensive players in the game. The footwork, quick hands, positioning, arm strength, and competitive attitude make Baez invaluable no matter what position he plays. The question is, what are you doing every day to get better? #teamssk
March 26th, 2020, was slated to be MLB's Opening Day. We are all doing our part to combat COVID-19 by staying home. However, let's stick together, reach out to your loved ones and teammates, and lift their spirits. Use the time to video chat and talk about your favorite teams, players and games. Reflect on those moments in baseball whether good, bad or hilarious. Smile! Enjoy the game we love!
